I'm confused. What would I use tick tacs for? lol. And what would I spray with Pam, and why? How fine a detail can this puddy make? Could I mold a quarter or something?

@JamesVentureChannel In terms of new master copies, you want to avoid contacting your finished mold with unbaked Sculpey clay. Try pouring food grade paraffin wax, sold for "wax spas" in 6 pound blocks, into the mold. If you need it to be very stiff you can freeze the finished wax casting.

@JamesVentureChannel You can wash/rinse the found object, and press it into a pile of putty. Then, embed tic tacks, cake pearls, anything round and small, along the top edge of the putty pile. Let cure. Gently remove the round objects, and spray the sucker with Pam. Now, work a new pile of putty over the first one. When it's cured, as always, wash throughly. You will have a "key mold," (google that term.) Just leave a gap to pout candy into it, and rubber band it before pouring candy.

If I don't fully trust my ability to sculp my own shape to make a mold from can I press a found object into the mold clay as it's curing? Also if I wanted to produce completely 360 degree candies could I easily produce two molds of each half of the object and bring them together afterwards? And lastly (and I haven't yet used sculpy III yet) could I reverse engineer and create the mold first and transpose onto the sculpy to make a fresh master copy?

@gryphern I've said it once and I'll say it again: something that says it shouldn't have food in it shouldn't be used near food. Period.

@hotdogcore However, the product has been studied, even with extreme amounts being ingested (24 gm per day) the clay poses no risk, which is why it received an ACMI label. The MSDS lists no health hazards. Silicone is non porous and washableso it's not absorbing the Sculpy. If your level of concern is that should a child place a polymer clay dinosaur on a plate then the plate should be disposed of then power to you, but I think realistic consideration of toxicity/contamination is merited.

@gryphern Maybe I wear gloves to form sculpy beads, in which case I can eat all the Hors D'Oeuvres I want, not that what you said makes any point at all. So I guess I'll just ignore the safety warnings on the product's site, my sanitation classes, and my culinary education on your say so.
If you shouldn't use it to eat out of, you shouldn't use it to make anything, including molds, that will be used for food items.

@hotdogcore If you use your hand to form a Sculpy bead, should you never eat Pringles or other finger food again? While making a plate out of Sculpy will mean chemicals could leech from the Sculpy body into food, contacting baked Sculpy to a washable silicone surface once for a few minutes will not poison the mold, especially since the mold is non-porous and washable. But yeah, don't make Sculpey mouth guards or drinking cups.

From what I've read on their site, Sculpy is NOT a food safe material, and shouldn't be used to make anything that will hold food.
